Albany water gas and Light
City officials say the move is more affordable than making needed renovations to the current building.
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
City officials approved a move for the Albany Water Gas & Light Commission.
The city will buy the old Synovus Bank property downtown for more than one million dollars for the utilities department.
Mayor Dorothy Hubbard hopes that the company will be moved into their new location by January 1, 2016.
"There's quite a bit of work that needs to be done in terms of assigning spaces, who's going to be where. We know that all of the utility tellers will be there on the first floor. So all of that has to be looked at and it has to be [configured] so that it works well for our customers, " said Hubbard.
City officials says that the move will be cheaper than making the necessary renovations to the current Water Gas & Light headquarters.
